Sentence Building Activity for Kindergarten

Are you looking for a fun way to practice sentence building with kindergarten children? Try this simple, hands-on activity.

First, I wrote the sight words that we were practicing for the week on post-it notes. You could also use labels, but I wanted a less permanent approach. You can go here to grab more free sight words worksheets.

Materials:

Mega Bloks

Sharpies

Post-it Notes

Next, cut the Post-it notes to fit the blocks. We used our trusty Mega Bloks but you can use any blocks that you have.

Last, create sentences with the blocks. My twins loved creating silly sentences with the blocks. It's a simple and easy way to practice sentence structure, reading, and sight words in one.

Interventions & Extensions:

Use the Post-it notes to color code the words (for example: nouns=yellow, verbs = red, adjectives = blue). This will help children build better sentences and challenge children to create longer, more detailed sentences.
