Online Times Alive: City Creek Press Review

My daughter has been struggling to learn her times table, so I was very happy for her to learn math tables in a fun way, with the Online Times Alive subscription from City Creek Press, Inc.

Overview:

The Times Alive program is based on a best-selling book, Times Tables The Fun Way Book for Kids. The program teaches children multiplication with animated videos, songs, games and more to make math fun and interesting.

Membership Details:

The membership is very easy to use! It is a month-to-month subscription, and you can cancel anytime. It is very affordable at only $9.95 a month. There is a one-time registration fee of $6.95 as well.

Overview:

When you log in, there is a video that gives directions about how to use the program. I think it was helpful for parents as well as my daughter just to get an overall feel for the program.

How we used it:

My daughter was able to use the program for about 15 minutes each day. Even in that short amount of time, her math ability increased. I like how there is a parent area which allows you to go in and check your child’s progress.

The parent area also allows you to see a progress report to follow along with your child.

First, when you log in you can see the entire lesson list. I like this easy way to see the entire program at a glance.

It begins with a fluency check, which can also be printed, to see where your child is before they begin.

Lesson Overview:

There are stories for the facts, games, review problems, songs and more to make each fact “come alive”. There are also coloring pages, matching, and quizzes.

Other Benefits:

There is also an app that you can download for iOs devices. This makes it easy to practice multiplication facts on the go or when you are traveling.

Improvements:

I think that the inside of the account could be a little more user-friendly.

Also, we were confused because sometimes my daughter did an assignment and it wouldn’t be marked as complete.

It also only remembers where you were on one computer. I didn’t know that, so my daughter had to always use my computer in order to go back to where she was. I would prefer that the program allowed for multiple device usage, so that we could use the program anywhere in the house.

Overall:

All in all, my daughter really enjoyed using the membership. As a credentialed teacher, I liked the way that the math tables were presented.

Besides the minor suggestions that I have, overall I think this is a really good program. Instead of the boring flashcards and memorizing the multiplication table that children are usually subjected to, the Times Alive program really brings multiplication to life.

I think that this program makes your student want to learn due to the many different activities inside the program. Whether you have a second, third, or even a fourth-grader all children who need assistance with multiplication can benefit from the program.

If you have a child that needs a boost in learning their multiplication, or just want a fun way to review definitely check out this program.
