Different activities to teach the letter e:

Learn common letter e words:

Make simple writing activities by tracing words that begin with the letter e such as egg, elephant, elbow, and ear.

Young children need to hear the word used in a sentence or be shown a picture of the word to understand its meaning.

Tip: The letter e is in many words, so have children highlight or point out the letter e while reading.

Use a letter e coloring page to color objects that start with the letter e.

Alphabet Games:

A wonderful way to teach the letters of the alphabet is by playing games.

These games make easy literacy centers for children from kindergarten students through 2nd grade.

1. Alphabet Bingo - This is a classic game that can be played with any age group. Simply create bingo cards with alphabet letters and have children match the letters to items around the room or objects called out by the caller.

2. Alphabet Scavenger Hunt - This is a great activity for getting kids up and moving! Write a list of alphabet letters on slips of paper and hide them around the room or outdoors. Then, let the kids hunt for the letters and check them off their list as they find them.

3. Alphabet Memory Game - This is a simple yet effective memory game that can be played with any age group. Write alphabet letters on cards (or use flashcards) and lay them out face down. Take turns flipping over two cards at a time, trying to find matching letters. If the letters match, the player gets to keep the cards and take another turn. If not, the cards are turned back over and it’s the next player’s turn. The game is over when all the pairs have been found, and the player with the most matches wins!

4. Alphabet Art - This is a great activity for letter recognition and creative expression! Give each child a piece of paper and some crayons or markers. Have them draw a picture, using only lines and shapes, that starts with each letter of the alphabet. For example, an “A” picture might be a apple, an “B” picture might be a butterfly, etc. When they’re finished, hang up all the pictures for everyone to see!

5. Alphabet Soup - This is a fun and interactive way to help kids learn their letters! Simply write the alphabet on slips of paper and put them in a bowl. Then, let kids take turns drawing a letter from the bowl and acting out what that letter would be (for example, if they drew an “A”, they might pretend to be an airplane or act out an alligator). This activity can also be done with letter sound (beginning sound) instead of actual letters.

Find the missing letter- Place cards with missing letters of the alphabet and have children use stamps or markers to fill in the letter.
